The Upload Process

How to upload Afrobeats music.

Four steps from a finished Afrobeats track to a shareable release. You upload through your artist workspace; a submitted track becomes public only after approval.

01

Prepare the Song

Check your finished audio, make sure the beat and samples are cleared, and keep a high-quality master ready.

02

Create Your Artist Account

Join BeatsToRapOn for free or sign in. Set up your artist name, profile image and a short bio.

03

Upload + Add Details

Open your track workspace. Choose the audio file, add the title, cover art and credits, and select Afrobeats when it fits the recording.

04

Submit + Share

Send your track for review. After approval and publication, open the public release page and share its link with fans.

Already got the track ready?

Start with the actual upload. No need to buy a subscription for your first 10 tracks.

Uploading to BTR publishes into the BeatsToRapOn/BTR Music ecosystem. It does not send your Afrobeats single to Spotify, Apple Music or every DSP. A separate music distributor is needed for those outlets. Learn about uploading to Spotify or compare Artist Pro features and regional pricing.

Afrobeats Release Preparation

Get your Afrobeats release right.

Whether your sound leans into Afropop hooks, Afro-fusion, highlife-inspired melodies or club production, the upload details still matter. A clear title, good artwork and the right genre help listeners recognise the record.

Use the Right Afrobeats Genre

Choose Afrobeats for music that fits the style. If the recording is primarily Amapiano, choose Amapiano rather than forcing it into Afrobeats. Afropop and Afro-fusion are useful descriptions of your sound, but use the closest genre actually available in the uploader.

Check Beat, Sample and Feature Rights

Purchased or leased beats are not automatically cleared for every kind of release. Check the producer licence, permissions for samples and agreements with featured vocalists. Only upload music you can lawfully publish. Keep the files and contracts that confirm your permissions.

Make the Artwork and Credits Count

Use a clean square cover that remains readable on a phone. Enter the actual release name, consistent artist spelling and correct credits. A filename such as afrobeats_final_v7.mp3 is not a listener-facing song title.

Promote the Song, Not Just the Upload

After publication, check the public track page, share the link, post a short excerpt of your strongest hook and give listeners a clear reason to explore your artist profile. You can also explore BTR's music promo maker if it suits your release.

Discover the Sound / See the Charts

Your sound. Your scene.

Afrobeats spans melodic pop, rap crossovers, soulful vocals and dancefloor production. Explore the real BeatsToRapOn catalogue, find a sound that fits your release, and see which songs are earning positions on the BTR Power Charts.

Explore the Afrobeats subgenres.

Not every Afrobeats record sounds the same. These live genre pages help you hear the differences; when uploading, select the closest genre actually offered in your artist workspace.

Ready to release your own Afrobeats?

Build your artist page, upload your finished track and add the right genre. Share the public link after approval—no chart position or feature placement is promised.

Afrobeats Upload Questions

Everything you need to know before uploading.

Where can I upload Afrobeats music for free?
You can upload Afrobeats music directly to BeatsToRapOn. Create a free artist account and use the track workspace to submit your recording. Free accounts can upload up to 10 tracks in total, subject to the platform's content rules.
How do I upload an Afrobeats song to BeatsToRapOn?
Create an artist account or sign in, open your track workspace, choose your finished audio file, and add the song title, artwork, credits and appropriate genre. Submit the song for review. Once approved and published, share its public track link.
Is uploading Afrobeats music really free?
Yes. The free account includes up to 10 track uploads. You do not need Artist Pro to start. Artist Pro offers unlimited uploads and additional features; its price can vary by market.
Does BeatsToRapOn distribute Afrobeats to Spotify or Apple Music?
No. BeatsToRapOn is its own publishing and artist platform, connected to the BTR Music listening app. Uploading here does not deliver your song to Spotify or Apple Music. For those services, use a distributor. Read the Spotify upload guide.
Can listeners hear my Afrobeats song in BTR Music on iPhone and Android?
Approved, public tracks that meet BTR Music's eligibility requirements can become available in the iPhone and Android app. An upload alone does not guarantee publication, chart ranking or featured placement. Read more about BTR Music.
Can I upload Afropop, Afro-fusion or Afrobeats instrumentals?
Yes, provided you own or have permission to publish the recording. Choose the closest available genre in the uploader. An Afropop or Afro-fusion track may fit Afrobeats, while an Amapiano-led recording may belong in Amapiano instead. Instrumental producers should choose the category that best describes their music.
Is Afrobeat the same as Afrobeats?
Not exactly. Afrobeat usually refers to the older style associated with Fela Kuti, combining highlife, jazz, funk and other influences. Afrobeats generally refers to modern African popular music styles. Use the genre that most accurately describes your recording, rather than choosing a label solely for visibility.
Do I keep the rights to my Afrobeats songs?
You keep ownership of the rights you hold. Upload only original music or recordings you are authorised to publish, and check the licences for beats, samples and collaborations. The Terms explain the permissions BTR needs to host your music.
Can I earn money from uploaded Afrobeats tracks?
Eligible artists and recordings may earn through streaming and supported fan-payment features, subject to the applicable rules. Uploading a track or receiving a play does not automatically guarantee a payout. See the Payment Terms for the requirements.
What audio format should I use for Afrobeats uploads?
Use your best finished export and confirm the current supported file types and size limits in the track uploader. Keep your original master. A high-quality WAV or MP3 is a sensible starting point when supported.
How long does it take for my Afrobeats track to go live?
Every submission is subject to review. Publication timing depends on that process and any issues with the file or metadata. Check the status in your workspace; share the public link once the track is approved and live.
Can I upload an Afrobeats DJ mix instead of a song?
Yes, but full DJ sets belong in the dedicated DJ mix upload flow, not as ordinary singles. Mixes containing third-party recordings have separate licensing and payout rules.

Uploading a different genre? Visit the general music upload page. Uploading an Afrobeats or Amapiano DJ set? Use the full-length DJ mix guide.
