Tribute to João Gilberto by Mario Bakuna - Bossa Nova Night takes place at Bull's Head, 373 Lonsdale Road, London, SW13 9PY, on 25 April 2026 at 8:00 PM. Mario Bakuna performs on acoustic guitar and vocals in this concert dedicated to João Gilberto.
João Gilberto was a pioneer of bossa nova in the late 1950s and was often called the “father of Bossa Nova.” His style combined traditional samba with jazz, along with a distinctive acoustic guitar approach built around syncopated plucked chords and jazz-rooted chord progressions.
Mario Bakuna will present reinterpretations of some of Gilberto’s compositions. A Brazilian composer, arranger, vocalist, and guitarist based in London, he has spent over 25 years developing work rooted in Brazilian rhythms, samba, jazz, and bossa nova.
