About This Event
The Cypher: The Story of Hip-Hop through movement, Music & Media takes place at New Haven Museum in New Haven, Connecticut, on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at 1:00 PM. The program brings together choreographer Kim Holmes, radio DJ Zeb Powell, also known as Homegirl Zeb from WYBC Power Hours, and magazine writer Courtney Brown for a conversation about hip hop’s roots and how the culture has continued over time.
The discussion traces hip hop from the block parties of the Bronx to global stages today. The speakers talk about what it meant to grow up inside hip hop and how history appears in the work they create. Dr. Hanan Hameen, founder of the New Haven Hip-Hop Conference, moderates the conversation.
The event is free and takes place at New Haven Museum, 114 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT 06510.
