The Attractors were formed in 2011 by Westbound Train trumpeter and Void Union co-founder Rich Graiko as a tribute to 1960s-era Jamaican and American instrumental groove music. The group, formerly known as the Brooklyn Attractors, changed its core lineup in 2017 after Graiko moved from New York back to Boston.
The band’s recordings and live shows have included musicians from the Boston and New York reggae, ska, and jazz scenes. Players associated with the group include Jamaican percussion legend Larry McDonald, guitarist Andy Bassford, trombonist Buford O’Sullivan, pianist Key Stewart, bassist Thaddeus Merritt, drummer Jesse Hayes, saxophonist JC Ska Cohen, and guitarist Chris Brown. The Attractors have released Good Evil Alchemy, The Move, Love Bombs, and the live album Live In NYC.
