About This Event
Tales of Joy and Passion takes place at St Anne's, 31 Kew Green, Richmond, TW9 3AA, on Friday 5 June 2026 at 6:30 pm. The programme features two piano quintets written for the unusual combination of instruments and both including double bass: Franz Schubert’s Piano Quintet in A major, D.667, The Trout, and Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Piano Quintet in C minor.
Schubert’s quintet uses the double bass to support music of ease and radiant charm, while Vaughan Williams’s work is built around broad melodies and an intense, expansive character. The pairing places the two works alongside one another in a chamber music programme shaped by the sound of strings, piano, and double bass.
The performers are Manon Derome, violin; Sarah-Jane Bradley, viola; Anthony Pleeth, cello; Lynda Houghton, double bass; and Simon Callaghan, piano.
