About This Event
Spike Sikes & His Awesome Hotcakes comes to The Sound Room in Oakland on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 7:30 PM. The venue is located at 3022 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94611.
The project blends soul, swing, rhythm & blues, jazz, and jump. Spike Sikes grew up in El Paso, Texas, studied jazz at The University of North Texas, and started The Spike Band in 2004. He recorded three albums with that group before joining the Coast Guard in 2008, where he continued playing music while stationed in Maine, Northern California, and New Orleans.
He formed Awesome Hotcakes in 2014. His influences include Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Van Morrison, Cleanhead Vinson, Gatemouth Brown, Lightnin Hopkins, and Albert Ayler. The performance is presented by Bay Area Jazz & Arts at The Sound Room.
