Sinkane is the project of Ahmed Gallab, whose work has included time as a session musician with Eleanor Friedberger, Caribou, of Montreal, Born Ruffians, and Yeasayer. He also led the Atomic Bomb! Band as band leader and music director, collaborating with rotating members that have included David Byrne, Money Mark, Damon Albarn, Dev Hynes, Alexis Taylor, Amadou and Mariam, Jamie Lidell, Pharoah Sanders, and Joshua Redman.
Gallab’s latest album, We Belong, is his 8th studio release. The album draws on pop, funk, electronic music, and influences from 1970s and 1980s New York, along with rhythms from his native Sudan. Track references in the album description include “Everything Is Everything,” “Rise Above,” “We Belong,” and “Another Day.”
Groove Lane is described as funky, soulful, and energetic, with live performances that blend R&B, funk, and gospel music. The group’s sound features groovy basslines and soulful vocals.
