About This Event
Robert Arkins, the original star of the award-winning Irish film The Commitments, comes to Old Bakery Studios in Truro on Friday 4 September 2026 at 7:00 pm. Arkins played band manager Jimmy Rabbitte in the film and is touring with his own nine-piece Commitments band direct from Dublin.
The set includes hits from the film such as Mustang Sally, Nowhere To Run, Try A Little Tenderness, Midnight Hour, and Destination Anywhere, along with selected cuts from the Detroit Soul and Northern Soul era by artists including Jackie Shane and Eddie Floyd. Support comes from Dublin DJ Jacqui Carroll, who will play soul and Motown.
