Respect the Technique: Last Night a DJ Saved My Life is the 4th Annual Hip Hop Studies Conference at Howard University. The conference takes place November 13–15, 2026, at Howard University in Washington, DC, at 2400 6th St, NW, Washington, DC 20059.
Hosted by Hip-Hop Studies at Howard University, the three-day conference is an interdisciplinary gathering of artists, scholars, students, industry professionals, and Hip Hop enthusiasts. The program includes panels, interactive workshops, performances, film screenings, and networking.
This year’s theme, Respect the Technique: “Last Night a DJ Saved My Life”, centers the DJ as a foundational force in Hip Hop culture. It also examines the artistry, innovation, and cultural impact of DJs and producers across generations and global contexts, from the origins of Hip Hop to the digital age.
