About This Event

Reading Raga Resonance: Bow, Beat, and Breath takes place at The Great Hall University of Reading on London Road, Campus, RG1 5AQ, on 12 September 2026 at 12:00 PM. Doors open at 11:30 AM.

Presented as part of the annual Kala Festival, the programme features Satwinder Pal Singh on sarangi and Ustad Shahbaz Hussain on tabla. The performance is structured as a musical exchange between the two instruments, with the sarangi leading in the first half and the tabla taking the lead in the second half.

Satwinder Pal Singh began playing sarangi at an early age and gave his first public performance at 5. He later studied with Ustad Sabri Khan and Pandit Ram Narayan Ji. Shahbaz Hussain first studied under his father, Ustad Mumtaz Hussain, and later learned from Ustad Faiyaz Khan, Ustad Shaukat Hussain Khan, and Ustad Allah Rakha. He leads the fusion group Indus and teaches tabla across the North of England.

Unauthorised filming or photography is not permitted, and mobile phone use, including texting, is not allowed during the event. For special needs, contact the organisers.
