About This Event

Notes from the Underground: Film Screening takes place in person at Glasgow Zine Library on Albert Road in Glasgow on Tuesday, 16 June 2026 at 6:00 PM.

The film traces the inter-generational Hip Hop movement of Cape Town across four decades, from the 1980s to the present day. It follows personal stories from different generations and neighbourhoods, showing how Hip Hop has been used as a tool for self-discovery, activism, spiritual awareness and community empowerment.

The movement is described through the idea of Knowledge of Self, with the film connecting it to efforts to reclaim culture, rewrite erased histories and forge new identities in the aftermath of colonialism and apartheid.
