Moonlight Sonata by Candlelight takes place on Saturday, 22 August 2026 at 6:15 PM at St Giles Cathedral on High Street in Edinburgh, EH1 1RE.
Pianist Ugnius Pauliukonis performs a candlelit recital featuring Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27 No. 2, known as Moonlight, alongside Debussy’s Clair de lune, Chopin’s Scherzo No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 31, and two works by Liszt: Sonetto del Petrarca No. 123 and Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12 in C-sharp minor, S.244.
The recital is presented on a brand new Steinway Model B Grand Piano. Ugnius Pauliukonis is an award-winning pianist, educator, and curator who has performed with the BBC Philharmonic, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, and Kaunas State Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared at Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and the Lithuanian National Philharmonic.
