About This Event
Midsummer Concert takes place at St James' Church in Jacobstowe on Friday, 12 June 2026 at 7:30 pm. The event is organised by Jacobstowe Community Group and is a charitable concert in aid of RNLI Lifeboats and St James Church, Jacobstowe.
The programme features two headline acts: Crowdy-Kit and Mariners Away. Crowdy-Kit began as a ceilidh band formed by Hannah Cumming, Jon Dyer and Matt Norman, and their repertoire includes traditional tunes, songs and new material shaped by English folk, American contra dance, New Orleans blues, jazz and Quebecois music. They have performed at Shrewsbury Folk Festival, Towersey Folk Festival and Sidmouth Folk Festival, as well as ceilidh series including Oxfolk, Unicorn and the Bristol Ceilidh.
Mariners Away are based in South Zeal on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon and were formed in 2007. They perform traditional sea shanties and other songs of the sea, with harmony and chorus singing forming part of their style. Their performances have included appearances on BBC Spotlight, at Exeter Chiefs, aboard the relaunch of SV Britannia at Exeter Quay, at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, and at the Falmouth International Shanty Festival.
The interval includes a free glass of Pimms & Lemonade plus strawberries and cream. Space is limited to 73 people, and free parking is available in Little Ellacroft opposite the church.
