KOTA The Friend is a hip hop artist and musician from Brooklyn, NY. He developed an early interest in music through hip hop, R&B, jazz, and soul during the 1990s. By age 8, he had joined his school’s music program and was playing trumpet, later becoming the leader of the trumpet section in high school.
During that period, he also taught himself guitar and piano and worked two weekend jobs to build a home studio, where he recorded hip hop tracks and folk songs with guitar accompaniment. After high school, he attended schools for the performing arts. He now produces and writes his own music and also plays guitar, keyboard, and bass.
His music has been featured by XXL, FADER, Billboard, Pigeons & Planes, HipHopDX, NYLON, The Source, MILK, and other blogs.
