Knats is a quintet led by Stan Woodward on bass and King David-Ike Elechi on drums, with trumpeter Ferg Kilsby. The group is described as making Geordie jazz with sophisticated arrangements, strong melodies, and danceable grooves.
After moving to London at the end of 2022, Knats played sold-out Jazz Refreshed and Rough Trade East headliners, supported Str4ta at a sold-out Jazz Cafe, and performed for the BBC Proms. In 2024, the band signed to Gearbox Records, and in 2025 released their debut self-titled album at Damon Albarn’s Studio 13, mixed by Hugh Padgham. The album received critical acclaim from Jazzwise, Rolling Stone Japan, The Guardian, and others.
