About This Event

Iranian classical music with Mahya Panahi & Sohrab Kolahdooz takes place at Glebe Town Hall in Glebe, NSW, on Saturday, 11 July 2026 at 5:00 pm. Presented by Worlds Within Worlds, the performance features Iranian-Australian percussionist Sohrab Kolahdooz and tanbur player and ethnomusicologist Mahya Panahi.

The program draws on Persian classical music, with traditional melodies, improvisations, and rhythmic explorations. Kolahdooz’s work spans Persian classical music, contemporary performance, and intercultural collaboration, and he has more than two decades of international performance experience across Iran, India, and Australia. He performs on traditional Persian percussion instruments including the tonbak, daf, and zarb-e zurkhaneh.

Panahi’s practice is rooted in the musical heritage of western Iran and the tanbur, an instrument associated with both musical and spiritual significance. With fifteen years of performance experience, she works with traditional repertoire while bringing a personal perspective to the instrument’s distinct voice.

The venue address is 160 Saint Johns Road, Glebe, NSW 2037.
