HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUKE! - A SPECIAL SHOW BY THE POCKET ELLINGTON! takes place at Polish Social and Cultural Association POSK, 238-246 King Street, London, W6 0RF, on Saturday 25 April 2026 at 8:00 pm. Bar service is available from 7:00 pm.
The Pocket Ellington presents a programme built around Duke Ellington’s birthday, which falls on 29 April. The set includes Ellington charts from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, including Main Stem, Rain Check, Cotton Tail, Chelsea Bridge and Such Sweet Thunder. The arrangements are described as new versions that evoke the period while leaving room for solo sections.
The repertoire also includes pieces by artists and arrangers influenced by Duke Ellington, including Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk and Gil Evans. The Pocket Ellington is described as a band with four horns and a rhythm section, and the lineup includes Alex Webb on piano and musical direction, Dave Green on bass, Winston Clifford on drums, Tom Smith and Robert Fowler on reeds, Andy Davies on trumpet, and David Lalljee on trombone.
