Grandmaster Flash: “Birth of a Culture” takes place at Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at 7:00 PM. The program features Grandmaster Flash in conversation with Karsonya Wise Whitehead, host of Today with Dr. Kaye on WEAA 88.9 FM.
The program is tied to Birth of a Culture, a book by Grandmaster Flash and coauthor Robert “Scoop” Jackson that presents a chronological history of hip-hop through Grandmaster Flash’s firsthand experiences. The book traces the origins of hip-hop in the 1970s Bronx and includes his development of the Quik Mix Theory.
Registered in-person attendees will receive a free copy of the book while supplies last. Doors open at 6:00 PM, and seating in Central Hall is first come, first served for registered attendees.
