Black Uhuru returns to Portland, Maine, for a live performance at Bayside Bowl on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 8:00 PM. The event is all-ages and takes place at 58 Alder Street, Portland, ME 04101.
Black Uhuru is a Jamaican reggae group with more than 50 years of history. The band won the first Grammy Award for reggae music and has released a long list of recordings across its career. Its roots began in Kingston’s Waterhouse district in the late 1960s, with founding members including Derrick “Duckie” Simpson, Don Carlos, and Garth Dennis. Over the years, the group became known for albums such as Love Crises, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, Sensimelia, Chill Out, and Anthem.
After winning the Grammy for Anthem in 1984, Black Uhuru continued touring and recording, later releasing albums including Brutal, Positive, Unification, Dynasty, As the World Turns, and New Day. The group has also toured internationally and performed throughout Europe, South America, and the United States.
