Ferg's Imaginary Big Band Midsummer Bash + DJs takes place at Cobalt Studios, 10 Boyd Street, Shieldfield, NE2 1AP, on 19 June 2026. The advertised start time is when doors open, and music is expected to begin one hour later.
Ferg’s Imaginary Big Band is a Leeds-based ensemble connected to the independent jazz and experimental music scene. The group is made up of 25+ members and includes musicians from Awen Ensemble, Ancient Infinity Orchestra, Plantfood and KOG. Their live performances and arrangements draw on a wide range of influences, including The Sun Ra Arkestra, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Bowling, Godzilla and Mexican-American restaurants.
The band released Live at Lancaster Jazz Festival in 2024, toured nationally throughout 2025, and appeared at Ronnie Scott’s, The Vortex, Howard Assembly Rooms, Love Supreme Festival, and the London, Manchester and Leeds Jazz Festivals. They won the 2023 Peter Whittingham Jazz Award, were part of Jazz North’s 2025 Northern Line programme, and were nominated for the 2025 Jazz FM Innovation Award. Their third album is due for release this summer via Trash City Records.
