DJ Beginner Course - 10 week free program is a free DJ course at Redfern Community Centre in Redfern, NSW. It begins at 6:00 pm on Thursday, 30 April 2026, and is marked as sold out.
The course runs for 10 weeks and includes 9 sessions of 2 hours each, plus 1 graduation week. It is led by Nick Toth and covers DJ fundamentals from the start, including a course overview, learning outcomes, the history of DJing and electronic music, and equipment basics. Topics listed in the course outline include turntables, CDJs, controllers, software options, PA setup, signal flow, troubleshooting, and an introduction to Serato DJ.
Students also work on cueing, beat matching, beat mixing, music structure, hot cue points, performance pads, EQ mixing, bass transitions, FX basics, and building a 20-minute set. Later weeks include scratching, different DJ styles, recorded set review, copyright basics, live remixing and mash-ups, marketing for DJs, and basic business admin such as invoicing and tax. The final week includes a live performance at an external venue called Your Time To Shine.
