Damu – Thicker Than Water: Musical Awareness Event takes place at Welcome House - Charity, 3 Wright Street, Kingston upon Hull, HU2 8HU, on Saturday 18 April 2026 at 3:00 PM. The free community event is organised by Create and Express Ltd.
The event raises awareness of the critical shortage of Black blood donors in the UK. It also addresses the impact this has for people living with conditions such as sickle cell disease, where finding a matching blood donor can be vital.
Attendees can expect live music performances from Ella, Hekima and Bidemi Sax, along with real stories and testimonies from people with lived experience and blood donors. There will also be open conversations about myths, fears and cultural barriers around blood donation, plus guidance on how to register as a blood donor.
The event is open to all, with a particular encouragement for Black African and Caribbean communities. Refreshments will be available.
