Greg Rahn is described as one of the most versatile keyboard players in the Bay Area, with the ability to play jazz, classical, contemporary, upbeat honky-tonk, and ragtime compositions. Originally from Connecticut, he now lives in American Canyon, California, northeast of San Francisco.
Rahn developed a passion for two-fisted piano styles after hearing Dr. John play piano. His recent project, Rent Party Piano, is inspired by rent parties common in urban American cities in the 1920s and 1930s, when renters invited guests before rent was due and charged 25¢ admission while live musicians performed and food and drink were served. The compositions draw on honky-tonk, jazz, blues, and boogie-woogie influences associated with Fats Waller, Professor Longhair, Pete Johnson, and Dr. John.
