Charlies Sounds: Gil Scott Heron X Jamie XX
Join us for the launch of Charlies Sounds on Thursday, May 28th at 7 PM at Charlies Loft, located at 16 Stewart Street, Milngavie, G62 6BW. This new listening series is dedicated to experiencing great records in an immersive environment.
For our inaugural event, we will focus on two significant works from influential artists Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie XX:
- 7:00 PM: Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson – Pieces of a Man (1971) - This debut studio album marked a pivotal moment in Scott-Heron's career, showcasing a blend of soul, jazz, funk, R&B, and early rap. It is celebrated for its profound impact on hip hop, electronic music, and socially conscious songwriting.
- 8:30 PM: Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie XX – We’re New Here (2011) - This album features Jamie XX's reinterpretation of Scott-Heron's final recordings, merging dubstep, UK garage, and modern electronic elements while maintaining the emotional depth and political urgency of Scott-Heron's work.
At Charlies Sounds, we aim to create a distraction-free listening experience. Enjoy the music in complete darkness through our high-quality d&b audiotechnik sound system, allowing the records to take center stage.
