About This Event
Afro-Filipino Jazz Project at YBG Festival takes place at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM. The performance is presented by the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival and features a project led by flutist, percussionist, and arranger John Calloway, who has been part of the Festival many times over the years.
The Afro-Filipino Jazz Project was founded in 2022 as a creative, interactive space for Afro Filipinx, African American, and Filipino American musicians to explore a range of musical styles, with emphasis on jazz idioms, African American roots, and traditional and folkloric Filipino music. It is part of the larger Afro-Filipino Project, which is dedicated to highlighting and celebrating the art practices and artists of African American and Filipino American communities.
This performance features bass player Marcus Shelby, drummer Deszon Claiborne, pianist Murray Low, saxophonist TJ Milan, Conrad Benedicto on kulintang, vocalist and dancer Ting Alvarez, and guest vocalist Anna Maria Flechero.
