Afro-Brazilian Beats: Free Drumming Workshops + Capoeira Demo takes place at the Go-Go Museum & Cafe in Washington, DC on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM. The event is organized by Batalá Washington and is free and open to all ages.
Join Batalá, DMV’s all-women drum band, for free drumming workshops in samba-reggae, an Afro-Brazilian music genre that blends the swing of Brazilian samba with the pulse of Jamaican reggae. No drumming or dance experience is necessary.
Special guest Estrela Preta will present a capoeira demo during the program. The schedule includes:
- 2:00 PM — Welcome & arrivals
- 2:15 PM — Batalá performance (10 min)
- 2:25 PM — Drumming workshop (30 min)
- 2:55 PM — Capoeira demo by Estrela Preta
- 3:15 PM — Drumming workshop (30 min)
- 3:45 PM — Closing remarks
