Don Letts’ career spans film and music from the late 1970s through the 1980s, 1990s and into the millennium. He first came to wider attention in the late 1970s as a DJ at The Roxy, where he introduced a generation of punks to reggae and adopted the punk DIY ethic that informed his early work.
His first film, The Punk Rock Movie, was shot on Super-8 and documents the UK punk scene, including the Sex Pistols, The Clash and others. He later directed more than 300 music videos for artists including Public Image and Bob Marley, and went on to documentary work covering Gil Scott-Heron, The Jam, Sun Ra, George Clinton and Paul McCartney. His feature film Dancehall Queen, co-directed by Rick Elgood, was shot in Jamaica in 1997. In March 2003, he won a Grammy for the documentary Westway to The World.
Sample African Caribbean food will be available from Soul Food Sister.
