About This Event
Africa Night at Sahara Lounge takes place weekly on Saturday nights at Sahara Lounge in Austin. The residency has run since 2011 and features two house bands, Zoumountchi and Sahara Allstars.
The house bands include West African musicians Ibrahim Aminou on kora, guitar, and vocals; Alseny and Abou Sylla on percussion; Aicha Wambaya and Diante Moses on vocals; plus horn and rhythm sections. Rotating guest bands also appear, including local and touring Afrobeat, Afropop, Reggae, and Latin groups.
The event is held at Sahara Lounge, 1413 Webberville Road, Austin, TX 78721. It includes a dance floor, free parking, a backyard patio, free buffet at 7:00 PM until it runs out, and custom cocktails, including non-alcoholic options. The event is supported in part by a grant from the Live Music Fund of Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment.
