About This Event

Aba Shanti-I, a renowned sound system operator and dub producer from the UK, will perform at The Scott Arms in Kingston on May 9, 2026. Doors open at 7 PM and the event will continue until late. Earlybird tickets are available for £15, while general admission is £20. This intimate evening has a limited capacity, so securing tickets in advance is recommended.

Aba Shanti-I has been a prominent figure in the reggae scene for over 30 years and has held a permanent residency at the Notting Hill Carnival since 1993. He was voted the No. 1 DJ in the world by DJ Magazine in the same year. His sound system specializes in roots reggae and dub music, drawing inspiration from legends like Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, Junior Delgado, Yabby You, and Prince Lincoln. His unique sound is characterized by the use of reverb, delays, and effects.

Before adopting the name Aba Shanti-I, he was known as Jasmine Joe while deejaying for the Jah Tubby's sound system. In 1990, he took over the Jah Tubby's sound system and made his debut at the Leicester Carnival. Since then, he has performed regularly across the UK and Europe, including appearances in the US, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, and Japan. Aba Shanti-I has also collaborated with his brother Blood Shanti and the band Shanti-Ites, releasing records on their Falasha imprint, including their first record, "Tear Down Babylon," in 1993. Currently, he operates a studio in Hackney, London, and is a founding member of the University of Dub, where he has been a regular since the late 1990s.

Joining Aba Shanti-I for this event is Cut La Funk, a south coast legend and soundbwoy, who will set the mood with a special feel-good Dub and Roots Reggae set.
