I’m Favour Menkiti, from Onitsha but born and raised in Ilorin, Nigeria — where chasing your music dreams isn’t easy, but passion keeps you going. Music has always been more than a hobby for me — it’s my calling. It started with humming random tunes and writing lyrics at the back of my school notes. Before I knew it, music became my therapy — the one place I could pour out everything I couldn’t say out loud: pain, peace, love, confusion, everything. I grew up waking to my parents playing Mariah Carey’s Heartbreaker, Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, and Beyoncé — and I’d sit there, soaking in every note, dreaming that one day my words would touch hearts the same way theirs did. That’s when I realized — music isn’t just sound, it’s emotion, confidence, and power. But being an artist in Nigeria? It’s tough. It feels like walking uphill with no shoes. Studio time, promotion, and even opportunities all come with challenges you can give your all and still feel unseen. But I don’t stop.
